What it is and what it's for#
WinChange has three different instruments, and mixing them up is the most common mistake:

How to set it up#
Surveys#
A survey is defined once and launched as many times as you like, in waves. That is what lets you repeat the same survey every quarter and compare.

Create the survey
Name, description, the points whoever completes it will get, and whether it is anonymous.

Each one with its type and its position.

Launch a wave
Name of the wave, who it is aimed at, and the dates between which it is open.
Question types:

The wave is where the reach is decided: it can be aimed at particular locations, organisational units or tribes, and it opens and closes on set dates.
Anonymity is decided when the survey is created and cannot be changed once it has been launched. If you promise anonymity, check it before the first wave: it is the one thing in the whole programme that does not allow a correction.
Quizzes#
A quiz does not live on its own: it is attached to a challenge whose Completion method is Quiz. The person takes it from the challenge and passes it by reaching the pass mark.

Questions can be single choice (one correct answer) or multiple choice (several). On each option you mark whether it is correct.
Unless you are certifying something with consequences, leave allow retries switched on. The point is for people to learn, not to catch them out in a mistake; a quiz that blocks the route generates support tickets, not knowledge.
Climate#
Climate works differently: these are not questionnaires but stand-alone questions shown on a recurring basis in the app, and answered in a single gesture.

When answering, the person can add a comment. That is usually where what really explains the number is to be found.
Grouping the questions by category is what turns scattered answers into a reading. An orphan question says nothing; five "workload" questions over three months do.
What the employee sees#
- Surveys: a notice when there is a wave open for them, with the points they get for completing it and the closing date.
- Quizzes: the quiz inside the challenge, with the result when they finish and, if they fail, the option to retake it when that is allowed.
- Climate: a short question every now and then, with the option of adding a comment.
Frequently asked questions#
Can I repeat the same survey later on?
Yes, that is exactly what waves are for: same survey, new wave. Scale questions are the ones that let you see the change over time.
Can I change the questions between waves?
You can, but you lose the comparison. If you need to ask something else, create a new survey and leave the original untouched.
If a survey is anonymous, do you know who answered it?
Their participation is recorded, so they can be given their points, but their answers cannot be attributed to them. It is important to explain it in those terms: people assume "anonymous" means that not even their participation is known.
Can I launch a wave only to one tribe or to certain stores?
Yes, when you launch the wave. It is the usual approach when you want to contrast two sites.
How often should I ask a climate question?
Little and sustained. One question every few days gets answered for months; a weekly battery is abandoned within three weeks.
Limits and warnings#
- Anonymity cannot be changed once the survey has been launched.
- A closed wave cannot be reopened. If you did not allow enough time, launch another wave.
- The survey's points are given for completing it, not for what is answered.
- Changing a quiz's pass mark does not revisit earlier results.
- Nobody reads free-text answers and climate comments on their own. If you are not going to put time into reading them, do not ask for them: asking and not answering does more harm than not asking.
- Climate questions expire. Check the validity dates every so often or the module will go quiet without anyone noticing.
